7. Internet Use

Lawton Public Library offers access to public computers upon presentation of appropriate identification or a Lawton Public Library card.  Internet access shall be provided to all users as is reasonable, fair, and equitable in accordance with the American Library Association’s “Access to Electronic Information, Service, and Networks:  An Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights” (See Addendum E.)

A.  Child Safety on the Internet:

Parents or guardians are expected to monitor use of the Internet by their minor child.  Children who use the Internet without parental supervision may be exposed to inappropriate or disturbing information and images.  Library staff will monitor computer usage by observing from the circulation desk, periodically walking by the computer stations, and by checking each station daily.  The Lawton Public Library will endeavor to be aware of, and follow, current state and Federal Child Internet Safety laws, and at the discretion of the Library Director may curtail access to the Internet if deemed necessary.

B.  Acceptable Use of the Library Computers

All electronic traffic originating from the computer stations will be in accordance with acceptable use standards.  Failure to abide by these standards will result in the loss of privileges.

C.  Unacceptable Use of Library Computers

Computing resources may only be used for legal purposes by the public and/or staff in accordance with the ethical standards of the Lawton Public Library.  Users are cautioned to guard closely the security of personal information, credit card numbers, computer accounts, passwords, and other types of authorizations.

D.  Staff Assistance

Library Staff will give assistance within their timeframe or knowledge and shall not be held liable for any unintentionally misleading information.
